Downloads for Unregistered Users and Improved search engine

Nov 06, 2024
26k views

Dear Z-Library Community, today we are glad to share some great news with you 😌

Downloads for Unregistered Users

After 2 years, we have restored the ability for guests to download 5 books. Please note that the download limits are based on your IP address. It's common for internet providers to use shared IPs for multiple devices, so the download limit may also be shared between those devices. If this is the case, the download limit may already have been spent for the IP address you're using

We'd like to point out that this function not only allows everyone to download books without registering or logging in, but also helps to distinguish our website from scam sites

Our aim is to provide access to literature and help educate people around the world. With your help and support, we will continue to work hard on this project!

Separated buttons to Read and Download

As we are trying to make the library more convenient, we have decided to divide the read and download buttons. So, from now on, you do not need to look for hidden buttons as they are all visible now. Have you noticed the change?

Unprecedented seizure of our domains with books on rare languages!

Nov 12, 2023
76k views

Today we are forced to share some sad news - yesterday many of our domains were seized again. We should highlight that the majority of the seized domains were not mirrors of the Z-Library website. Instead, they were separate sub-projects, containing only books in rare languages of the world, and their blocking is perplexing. For instance, these domains included books in Tamil, Mongolian, Catalan, Urdu, Pashto, and other languages:

afrikaans-books.org
bengali-books.org
urdu-books.org
marathi-books.org
chamorro-books.org

Over the 15 years of the project's existence, we've managed to collect an impressive collection of rare texts in many uncommon languages. These domains featured many unique texts that can't be found anywhere else, including rare books, documents, and manuscripts. All of this is a priceless heritage, contributing to the preservation and study of world cultures, and serving as important material for researchers in linguistics, anthropology, and history.

New step in the InterLibrary project and other new features (Portable version for Windows, Send-to-PocketBook option, etc.)

Starting off with a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported our project during the fall fundraising drive! Your support is invaluable, and your donations help us continue our work and keep you happy with new features.

InterLibrary: add your paper books

A month ago we announced the Global Paper Book Library (InterLibrary) and now we have 130 Z-Points in 40 countries! You can check out the full list and find the nearest Z-Point here. Our goal is to build a global library of paper books accessible to people around the world.

Today, we are taking another step towards this goal and opening the possibility for all users to register their paper books in our system. For this purpose, we've developed a special interface where you can register your paper books that you are willing to share. You'll need your mobile phone to take a photo of the book cover, scan the barcode, and fill in basic info (in case our system can't do it automatically). So all your books will be listed in our system.

⚠️ Please bear in mind, this is not a fully completed feature, but a step towards facilitating book exchanges between users. We're planning to introduce a mechanism for exchanging books and user contacts soon. Despite this, you can already register your books in the InterLibrary system.

Help us build the world's largest paper book library!

We're excited to announce the launch of a project we've been hinting about in our previous blog post: our book exchange initiative. This project has grown beyond our initial concept of a simple book exchange and has evolved into a global library of paper books. Our ultimate goal is to connect readers worldwide and make literature accessible to everyone, regardless of location or financial constraints.

The project will be launched in several stages:
In the current (first) stage, we start gathering books over the world. If you have books that you no longer need or simply wish to share your literary collection, please send them to our designated literary hubs, known as Z-Points. There, we carefully store books, digitize (if the laws of a particular country allow), and send them to users and educational institutions in need.

Сall to sign the petition in support of Z-Library

Hello,

As you may have noticed, our library has been through significant updates in the last few months. It's been a time of growth and evolution, as we've worked tirelessly to improve library accessibility and service stability. However, behind the scenes, we're still under tremendous pressure from the FBI.

As you may know, in November 2022, two alleged participants in the project were arrested in Argentina at the request of the United States and still remain imprisoned for almost a year. Their detention occurred without compliance with legal norms and with numerous procedural violations. For example, a court sanction for arrest has been issued after the arrest. This situation has greatly affected the operation and functionality of the Z-Library.

Today, we are calling on you, our community, to join us in our fight for the Z-Library project. This project represents more than just a platform; it's a gateway to knowledge for people all over the world.

We are launching a petition https://z-library.se/support-us to restore access to Z-Library and stop the illegal criminal prosecution. Your signature can make a world of difference.

Introducing Desktop launcher and updated Android app, share buttons, news channels

Z-Library desktop launcher

Our team continues working on improving the accessibility to our library, and we now want to introduce the alpha version of our desktop launcher for Windows, macOS and Linux. This launcher will save you the trouble of searching for a working website link, as it will handle everything for you. Additionally, the application can operate over the TOR network, so you will always be able to use the library while maintaining your privacy. As a small bonus, all users accessing the library through the desktop application will get a one-month premium membership and doubled daily download limit (the period starts from the first app launch)!

Please note that since this is an alpha version, the application may not run on your computer. If you encounter any issues, feel free to contact our support team [email protected], and we will assist you.

⚠️ Upon the first launch of the application, you may encounter a warning message regarding an unverified developer. This is expected, as we don't yet have a Developer account on these platforms.

Dear Z-Library community,

We are excited to share with you some news from Z-Library. As always, our team is working hard to improve our service and make it more user-friendly and convenient. In this blog post, we will introduce you to several new features and improvements that we have recently added to our platform. So, let's dive in and explore what's new at Z-Library!

Z-Access Page

We have created a special page called Z-Access that provides users with all possible access points to our library, including personal domains, Android app, Telegram bot, magic email, and other useful links. You can find it in the menu or on your profile page.

Worldwide Statistics: How Students and Educators Use Z-Library

Apr 27, 2023
62k views

It's no secret that the most active users of our library are students and staff from various universities. We wanted to learn more about this and have collected statistics showing which educational institutions use Z-Library and how they use it. How did we separate one university user from another? For data collection and analysis, we decided to rely on the domain zone where users' email addresses are located. For example, an email like "*@utoronto.ca" allows us to assume with a high degree of confidence that this is an employee or student of the University of Toronto.

During the collection of statistics, we discovered that Z-Library is currently used by more than 600,000 students and teachers from over 30,000 educational institutions (universities, colleges, and schools) worldwide! These values, and the numbers in the graphs below are a low estimate since not all users give their university email addresses when registering. However, the obtained statistics should be relatively accurate. Also, due to the large number of users from China, we decided to combine the largest universities of this country into one line.

So, let's start with the general statistics. In which countries do university students and staff use Z-Library most actively? (We highlighted Taiwan due to the significant number of our users located there. There are no political reasons involved).

Z-Recommend, say “Thank you” option, new menu, booklist comments and plans for 2023

Jan 26, 2023

Dear Z-Library community,

As you may know, in November 2022, as ordered by the US secret service, almost all the public domains of the library were blocked, and the inner infrastructure of the project suffered some substantial damage, too. Today, we are still under unprecedented pressure. At the moment, Z-Library is going through the hardest times in all the 14 years of its existence. The library might work with interruptions, and we ask you to be patient. Be sure - we are doing everything possible to ensure free access to knowledge for millions of people across the globe, and we expect you to help us with that and to support us.

But despite all the difficulties, the library continues to function and develop! We have recently introduced several important features - the new recommendations section, comments to booklists, the new web-site menu, and also now you can thank the users who made the books appear online. Now, let us speak about each of those and our plans for 2023.

A few words about the events of November 2022

As many of you know, on November 3rd most of our domains were seized and some our servers were suspended by the United States Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation. In addition, on November 16 the United States Department of Justice published the indictment against two citizens of Russia, Anton and Valeria. They are accused of criminal copyright infringement, wire fraud and money laundering to operate the Z-Library.

We refrain commenting on the alleged Anton and Valeria involvement in the Z-Library project and the charges against them. We are very sorry they are arrested. We also regret that some authors have suffered because of Z-Library and ask for their forgiveness. We do our best to respond to all complaints about files hosted in our library if it violates author's rights.

We see the resonance recent events caused, we see how many people support and believe in Z-Library. Thank you for your support, it is extremely valuable to us. Thank you for each donation you make. You are the ones who making the existence of the Z-Library possible. We believe the knowledge and cultural heritage of mankind should be accessible to all people around the world, regardless of their wealth, social status, nationality, citizenship, etc. This is the only purpose Z-Library is made for.

Summer updates: some changes for Kindle option, improved design, Bulgarian language and over 50k new books

Z-Library is a library that is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Like our readers, Zlibrary strives to become better, and that's why we've made a number of upgrades.

We want our users to focus on reading, not on technical things. Therefore, we have increased the size of files that can be sent, the limit is now 45 MB and performance of full-text search became higher—search results appear faster. We increased displayed books limit from 500 to 1000 books for premium users only.

As you know, Amazon will stop supporting MOBI files for sending to Kindle at the end of the month. It will be replaced by EPUB. Until that happens, we recommend using MOBI, as EPUB is still a work in progress. While the choice is yours, you can also send EPUB files to Kindle, Zlibrary already has this feature.

Hello Z-Library community,

We're back to tell you what's new here. As we mentioned in the previous blog post, we have decided to focus on improving the quality of our book collection and have introduced moderation of uploaded books. We were glad to know there are many users who want to become a moderator and ready to spend their time helping the library. Thank you so much! Furthermore, at the request of some moderators, we have added a “Top Moderators” nomination to the Top Z-Librarians page. Similar to uploaders and editors, the most active moderators will get the bonuses.

Hello,

It's been a long time since our last post. What’s new? Big things, actually. Our Team has been busy making upgrades for the library.

On April 1, we successfully completed our spring fundraiser. Our team would like wholeheartedly to thank all the users who participated (and those who couldn't support us but really wanted to) in the spring fundraiser. We have also considered all of your wishes and suggestions to improve the project. Thank you very much!

Do you know that we have recently passed the 10 million-book upload barrier?! Over the past few years, our book collection has grown significantly thanks to you, our users. To improve the quality of the collection, we have launched a moderation section for uploaded books and invited our trusted users to become moderators. Book moderation will greatly reduce the number of spam, junk files and books with incorrect information. Here's a list of the top ones who have moderated most of the books:

Fundraising results, new “Add to Favorites”, Public Booklists, Android App, updated category filter, and more

Hello, ZLibrary Community!

We would like to begin by congratulating everyone on a successful fundraising campaign! We are grateful to you for supporting our project despite the difficult last 2 years. Your feedback and suggestions also help the project to develop in the right direction. Thank you all!

Meanwhile, our development team doesn’t just sit around and the new updates are proof of that. No doubt many of you have already noticed the disappearance of the “Saved books” and the “Save for later” button. But don't worry, the feature isn't gone, we have just improved it and now you can save books to Favorites by using the heart button under the book title. We recommend adding tags, this will significantly help you organize your Favorites and quickly sort books. Next to the "Add to Favorites" button, there is another useful button that allows you to add a book to your booklist in one click.

Book requests search, one-click download, booklists and other visual improvements

Hello, Zlibrary community!

Time for other updates about our library. Since our last blog post, we've spent more time on technical improvements than visual changes, but we still have a lot to share with you.

The long-awaited book requests search option. Now you can find a request by ISBN, book title, author, or publisher.

We also brushed up the form of adding new requests and fixed the flaws of the previous version.

NEW category system, profile page, search results page, and book covers

Jun 15, 2021
114k views

Dear Zlibrary community,

We continue to inform you about new features on our site. As we've already mentioned in the previous post, we're planning to refresh the design of some pages/elements and improve the functionality.

Let's start with the preview of our new category system, a feature that we've spent a lot of time and resources on. If you're not already familiar with it, be sure to check it now. In a few words, we have divided the categories into Fiction / Non-Fiction, fundamentally revised the past categories, and added new ones. At the moment most of the books don't have categories. Unfortunately, we can't do this automatically due to technical limitations, so if you know which category a particular book belongs to, please spend a minute to put in a category using the option "Suggest a correction", thus you will help other users to find the book quickly.

Please note that some subcategories may not be displayed on the category page, because they don’t include any books. As soon as at least one book appears there, that subcategory will immediately become available. If you consider that a category/subcategory is missing, our Support Team is always open to your suggestions :)

The results of fundraising, book rating, and a new page of download history

May 10, 2021
67k views

Dear Zlibrary Community,

We have some good news to share! The latest fundraising campaign was successfully completed, with about 200 countries participating! This is a sign to us of how our library has grown over the past few years, and all because of you. Thank you for putting up with bugs that come up from time to time, for reporting on errors with lightning speed, and for actively participating in the “life” of our library. Back in 2009, no one thought this project would grow into something big. Your touching feedbacks, which you send to us and post under the blog entry, give us a sense that we've come all this way for a reason. Thank you all!

So let's finally talk about the new features. We've recently implemented a feature to rate the plot of the book and the quality of the file. We hope this will help you choose the highest-quality version of the book, and we will be able to remove books with a low-quality rating in the future. This feature is located on the book page, just under the "author". Find it? You may wonder why two different colored scores are displayed. The orange score is for the plot of the book and the green one is for the quality of the file.

Please note: any user can rate the plot, but only users who downloaded the book can rate the quality.

New options: "book requests" and save your search filters

Feb 15, 2021
131k views

Hello booklovers,

Zlibrary team is on the air and we’re going to share the news that has happened since our last “meeting”.

Finally, the long-awaited "Book request" option is now available on our website! And from now on, you don't have to write us an email or a comment asking to add books, you can just use this option. All you need to know is an ISBN of the book and our system will automatically fill in the necessary information.

Please make sure that we don't have the book in the library before creating a request. If the book is available but you need a different file format, you won't be able to request it.

Besides subscribing to a book request (using the "Tracking" button), you can also set up a notification: either by email or through your account. Later we will make a search through book requests and a filter by category.
